The NGO CPIL, the main complainant in the 2G scam case, on Tuesday placed further documents before the Supreme Court with a fresh application against former communications minister Dayanidhi Maran in the Aircel-Maxis
deal alleging that the CBI probe against him was “less than honest”. Mr Maran is facing a CBI probe on the orders of the apex court for allegedly “coercing” Aircel promoter C. Sivasankaran to sell his stake to the Malaysia-based Maxis group as quid pro quo for investing `599.01 crore in Mr Maran’s family venture, Sun TV.
The petition said the CBI, in it latest status report filed in a sealed cover, was “understood” to have stated that “coercion” of Mr Sivasankaran by Mr Maran could not be established. The CBI probe report “apparently” had stated that the allegations were still under investigation. But till date the agency had not registered an FIR, nor questioned Mr Maran. “The petitioner is constrained to submit that investigation in this case has been less than honest,” the NGO said.
