Though several benches adjourned the hearing for a while after receiving the report of the blast, CJI Kapadia and Justice Kabir on the resumption, said in the wake of the Wednes-day’s attack on judiciary, security system in the Supreme Court would be further strengthened. The CJI, who heads the committee on security of the Supreme Court, reviewed the existing system and hinted of introducing the same system prevailing in Parliament House.
For this purpose, he asked senior advocate A.M. Singhvi, also a Rajya Sabha MP, to submit a note on how the security system in Parliament functions and what would be its cost if introduced in the apex court. However, Solicitor-General Rohingon Nariman submitted that the funds should not be a problem, apparently indicating that any issue related to the cost will be taken care by the government.
Justice Kabir described the blast as unfortunate and a “very serious” incident while expressing “surprise” over non-installation of the CCTV cameras in the outer premises of the HC despite May 25 blast.
