Becket wins Nizam’s Gold Cup

Hyderabad, Aug. 16: S. Padmanabhan-trained Becket was brilliantly ridden by Suraj Narredu to snatch the Nizam’s Gold Cup, the highlight of the races held here on Monday, in a sensational four-way finish involving Cielo Rey, Ice Breaker and Arabian Prince.

With this victory Suraj has become the youngest jockey to complete 1,000 wins, the third member from the same family to do so after his father Satish Narredu and paternal uncle Malesh Narredu.

Veteran jockeys Shamu Chavan, Pandu Khade, P. Shanker, M. Jagdish, Vashant Shinde, Karan Singh, Aslam Khader, Pesi Shroff and C. Rajendra are the others who have made it to the 1,000 wins club earlier.
