City set for monsoon fiesta

hyderabad, July 17: The much-awaited monsoon races will start from July 21 and continue till October 25.

An ambitious 28 race days will be staged during the period, with total stakes of Rs 7,64,20,000 including the value of the trophies. This amount will be disbursed for 178 races. This is an increase of 39% in the stakes.

Contributions by way of entry fees and forfeits will also be available for distribution in the races.

Every category has been catered to. There are no races for horses rated 0 to 25. Deccan Bookmakers-sponsored Fillies and Colts have been allotted Grade III races this year and will be staged on August 29 and September 5 respectively.

The grade 1 race for the President of India Gold Cup will be held on September 12. The Blue Riband of the season, the Golconda Textiles Deccan Derby, will be held on October 2.

The runner up for the Derby, The Golconda St Leger, will be held on October 17.

Intermittent showers in the city have helped the track look greener where about 543 horses under the Malakpet trainers would be competing for the supremacy.

Riders who donned the silks during the winter season will be seen in the thick of action once again. The following trainers wards summered at Bengaluru are in forward condition and will be in action during the early part of the season.
