Glock tips Vettel to emulate Schumi
Marussia driver Timo Glock believes that fellow national Sebastian Vettel can carry forward the Germany flag in Formula One and emulate the legendary Michael Schumacher in the near future.
Red Bull driver Vettel has won two consecutive world championship titles and is close to completing a hat-trick. The 25-yearold currently leads the F1 standings with 215 points with only Ferrari’s Spanish driver Fernando Alonso in touching distance on 209 points.
“Vettel is close to a hattrick of championships at the end of this season and he has all the capability to finish his career with seven or more titles.
“He is talented, focused and hungry to do well and with this form there is no reason why he can’t match or surpass Schumacher,” said Glock to this paper on the sidelines of a promotional event organised by Qnet to welcome the F1 racer after he landed here last night before leaving for New Delhi for the second edition of the Grand Prix of India.
Glock who has three career podiums to his credit, couldn’t finish the race last year in the inaugural race at the Buddh International Circuit. But he still finds the track unique and interesting.
“The track is unique and interesting. It has some special corners. There are a lot of possibilities to overtake on the turns.
Many turns like Turn 11 are very quick. The racetrack has a flow and there is every chance of an exciting finish,” he said.
Glock is determined to carry on the momentum his team acquired at his favourite track in Singapore this season and try to win a first point for the season. He finished a creditable 12th in Singapore despite starting on the soft tyres from 20th on the grid.
“I had a dream race in Singapore. I made no mistakes and kept fighting.
We at Marussa don’t have the best package, but we are improving and getting closer to our main rivals like Caterham,” he added.
“I had also good outing in Japan and Korea so I am looking forward to doing well in India and try to earn a point. But it will not be easy to repeat the Singapore GP show again.
I was a bit lucky there as some cars dropped out before me. Conditions and luck will play a role,” he said. Glock is placed 19th on the driver’s table and Marussia 10th in the constructors’ standings.
