JK tyre racing: Dark Don’s Ashwin looks to bounce back
All eyes will be on the premier Formula LGB 4 class when the third round of the 15th JK Tyre-FMSCI national racing championship begins here at the Irrungattukottai track this weekend.
The newly-introduced Formula 4 cars that missed the season opener made up for the disappointment in the second round by producing exciting races.
The 1600cc machines passed the reliability test in Coimbatore with flying colours and the quality grid ensured high-adrenaline action.
This weekend, Ashwin Sundar, spearheading newcomers Dark Don Racing, is looking to bounce back on his favourite track where he has won numerous contests. Ashwin had a nightmarish outing in the first round after crashing out in both the races.
Bengaluru-based Sudarshan Rao (Rayo Racing), on the other hand, made a memorable comeback to racing at Kari Motor speedway, the venue of the previous round, after a gap of two seasons by finishing on podium in both the races.
With 43 points, Sudarshan is on top of the leaderboard. Sarosh Hataria (WSRF-Tiger) and Vishnu Prasad (Meco Racing) are in second and third spots with 40 and 18 points respectively.
Mumbai’s Mihir Dharkar is leading the Volkswagen Polo Cup with 77 points. Closely following him are 31-year-old Ameya Walavalkar and Chennai’s A. Sandeep Kumar with 76 and 73 points respectively.
