Narain Karthikeyan banks on aero update
It’s been a testing time for Narain Karthikeyan.
The Indian racer, who suffered a second degree burns on his back during the Spanish GP and a prolapsed a disc in the same weekend, is now fully recovered after an array of determined training sessions.
As the F1 caravan crosses the Atlantic for the Canadian GP this weekend, Narain is hoping for a better result at Montreal.
Named after local Formula 1 hero, the Gilles Villeneuve, the circuit combines long straights with slow corners meaning that cars are pushed to the limit.
Narain said Hispania car has been reasonably reliable over the last few races.
“It bodes well for this circuit, which is notorious for being harsh on the engine and the brake. We have some new aero parts for this race, so I hope we will be a lot more competitive. The track should suit us better than Barcelona or Turkey as it is a low downforce circuit,” said Narain.
Narain is hoping for a significant boost in his lap times.
“All of the chicanes here are quite challenging and you need to use them well to extract a good lap time, but you need to be very precise as the walls are very close. There is no such thing as a small mistake here, any mistake and you’re in the wall. To be in Formula 1 you must always set yourself ambitious goals, so we must keep pushing harder and harder all the time,” he added.
After missing the season-opener at Australia and retirement in Malaysia, Narain managed to cross the finish line in the rest of the four races.
However, Narain’s biggest headache is his experienced teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi who out-qualified the Indian thus far.
