Subbiah Ganapathy-trained Southern Emperor was given a brilliant ride by Byregowda Sreekanth to nose out Czar Of Romance in a thrilling finish in the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas, the second classic of the season and the major attraction of the races held here on Friday.
Southern Emperor, who set a new course record of 1:33.85 seconds for the mile race, gave owner Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy his 578th classic victory.
