Super Saver is favourite
Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver will be seeking to keep his Triple Crown hopes alive when he comes out of the eighth gate at the 135th Preakness Stakes.
Super Saver was also listed as the betting favourite at five-to-two as he drew the eighth post in the field of 12 at Wednesday’s draw.
Third place Derby finisher Paddy O’Prado will start from the 10th gate in Saturday’s race. Derby runner-up Ice Box is skipping the Preakness.
Looking At Lucky is the second choice, at three-to-one behind early favourite Super Saver. Paddy O’Prado is listed at nine-to-two for Saturday’s 1 3-16-mile race at Pimlico.
Super Saver is ridden by Calvin Borel, who last year rode favoured filly Rachel Alexandra to a win over the boys from the outside number 13 post.
“Eight is perfect,” said Super Saver trainer Todd Pletcher said.
“It will give Calvin an opportunity to survey things. He’ll be able to see who’s doing what.”
“He’s tactical enough that I think he’s probably going to land in the first tier. We’re not committed to anything. We’re just going to let our horse run his race,” he added. — AFP
