Acknowledge the natural cycle, ladies

Freud said anatomy is destiny and thereby earned himself the title of the worst kind of chauvinist ever. Women have been up in arms proclaiming their feminist leanings. Is this just to prove their equality? Lovelies, one wishes equality were that simple!

But guess what ladies? Freud was right. In spite of advances in surgery, men cannot bear children — yet. As such, the role of a maternal figure in the whole child bearing and rearing process is indispensable.
But those of you who wish to wear the pants in the house and outside be the breadwinners, the lazy in me salutes you. Oh yes it does. Give me, my fair maidens, this day my couch and baby-watching duties and I’d be a happy stay-home dad. But certain anatomical impossibilities quasi-ordain that the lady takes maternity leave while the male continues to toil all night and day, quite literally.
An argument often offered is that the male lion guards the litter while the lioness goes hunting to fetch the food. True, but this is because guarding the cubs from other lions is a man’s job while any lioness with as much as half a paw can hunt a gastronomic gazelle for supper.
We men have no shame in bowing to the superiority of women who have the power to give life but why do “career women” today see child-bearing as something of a no-go pre-nuptial clause? Sure your MBA is important and you wish to have a career too but does it have to come at the cost of life itself?
Ladies, let me tell you that acknowledging the natural cycle of life is no shame. Till such point that it becomes possible for us men to have children, you will never understand our fears of redundancy. And then we shall wear skirts and make-up too!

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
