Button urges ‘struggling’ Schumacher not to quit till he wins
London, July 23: Reigning Formula One champion Jenson Button reckons that veteran German racer Michael Schumacher would regret quitting until he proves that his return was not a huge mistake.
“I don’t think he can quit now. He has to stay next year. He has to stay until he is winning races, for himself, before he can leave the sport,” The Sun quoted Button, as saying.
“Michael’s been slated for having some bad races, but he’s also had some pretty competitive races. Hopefully, he will still be here next year so we can see how he does because he will be performing better in 2011,” he added.
It was earlier reported that the struggling 41-year-old might cut short his three-year deal with Mercedes.
Schumacher, who has a record 91 career wins, is currently ninth and 109 points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton.
He has managed a best of just two fourth-place finishes in the 10 races.
