City all set for regatta
Hyderabad, July 9: The second edition of the Monsoon Regatta national sailing championship will commence at the newly instituted Yacht Club of Hyderabad from July 12.
The three major categories of the week-long event are inland match racing, hobie inland and optimist boys and girls. After a successful first edition, sailing enthusiasts are awaiting greater pomp and show this year.
Defending champion Nitin Mongia will look to retain his crown in the inland match category with national champion R. Mahesh.
Ayesha Lobo, the defending champion in the ladies match category is in top form to make it a successive second.
In the optimist boys’ category, it will be a tough fight between Upamanuy Dutta and Ganapathy. Zephra Currimbhoy and Sidra Sabir are favourites to dominate the optimist girls’ category.
Chosen to be hosted at a time when winds are most favourable, the hobie racing will be a thriller.
Defending champion Yuvraj Singh, who also won the Sail the Gulf Regatta in Doha last year, will be keenly contesting against compatriots from the Indian navy.
As many as 100 entries have been received for the meet.
The theme for this year’s Regatta is ‘For a clean Hussain Sagar,’ after a successful attempt of last year’s theme — Save the Lake.
