Face of CWG by next week

New Delhi, July 12: The brand ambassador for the 19th Commonwealth Games will be announced at the end of this week, Organising Committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot said on Monday.

“We have a list of names prepared and we will be announcing it by end of this week or by next week, for sure,” Bhanot said.

Archery Association of India president V.K. Malhotra had proposed the name of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who was also the face of Asian Games in 1982, as the brand ambassador for the October 3 to 14 event but the OC rejected the proposal. Talks about actor Shah Rukh Khan for the job were also quashed.

Interestingly, CWG OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi had made it clear that the face of the CWG would not be an actor but a sportsperson.“The brand smbassador for the Games will be a young sports personality.”
