Fennell takes stock of venues
New Delhi, Aug. 18: Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell went on a whirlwind tour of the Games venues here on Wednesday. As part of his two-day visit to monitor preparedness for the October 3 to 14 Games, Fennell visited all competition venues as well as the Games Village in his effort to ensure that more controversies don’t crop up around the CWG.
The CGF president, who arrived in India on Tuesday night, was accompanied by CGF chief executive Mike Hooper, Organising Committee vice-chairman Randhir Singh and secretary general Lalit Bhanot.
Fennell began his day at the Thyagaraj Stadium at 9 am and then went on to inspect the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium — the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies — followed by the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Indira Gandhi Complex, Games Village and Yamuna Sports Complex. Fennell will visit the two shooting ranges, Karni Singh range and Kadarpur, on Thursday.
The CGF president is also expected to have a series of meetings with the Group of Ministers appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to oversee preparations for the Games. He is also expected to address the OC executive board.
