ICC 'ambushes' Dhoni for breach of World Cup ad rules
Mumbai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) warned Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni over a possible breach of its marketing regulations, media reports have claimed.
The cricket governing body asked MSD to stop promoting firms not related to World Cup and said that the commercial of an electronic product featuring him could be in breach of its ambush marketing laws.
According to the ICC's rules, players have to stop endorsing companies and products not related to the World Cup from seven days prior to the start of the championship.
In a recent ad, the Indian skipper was seen endorsing a product that is a competitor to an official World Cup sponsor.
According to reports ICC has written a letter telling Dhoni about the possible breach of its ambush marketing laws.
According to unnamed sources close to the matter quoted in the reports, the ICC has written to chiefs of all the national boards reminding them of the need for strict adherence to the ambush marketing clause after the publication of the Dhoni’s commercial in a leading national daily.
