Kumble leads cricketers’ team into KSCA offices
Nov. 21: Off the field, if there is one triumph that Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath will cherish for the rest of their lives, then this is it. In what was surely a historic day, Team Kumble swept the Karnataka State Cricket Association elections, winning 22 out of 24 posts with one tied, here on Sunday.
It was an exciting finish for Kumble as India’s highest-wicket taker pipped the incumbent Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar for the post of president by 43 votes (559-516). Of 1489 voters, only 1080 exercised their right.
Srinath sailed thorough to the post of the secretary, winning by a whopping margin of 245 over former state skipper and international umpire A. V. Jayaprakash.
Former Indian pacers Venkatesh Prasad and Roger Binny along with industrialist Sadanand Maiya were elected to the vice-president’s posts.
“Our idea is to first make KSCA a model association by delivering what we have promised. It’s a great challenge,” noted Kumble, not for once letting his emotions get out of control.
