Mahesh wins Monsoon Regatta

July 18: Mahesh Ramchandran and crew R.S. Dulaji, Neeraj Sharma and G. Sahu bagged the Monsoon Regatta Inland Match category trophy dethroning defending champion Nitin Mongia.
In-form Mahesh put up a brilliant show winning all the three races. While Mahesh had a relaxed third race, the pressure was on Mongia who still had some hope of winning a gold.

Though Mongia was in the lead during the third race, Mahesh was lucky to be blessed with natural conditions — water and wind — in his favour, to help him emerge as the winner.

Nitin Mongia and crew Yuvraj Singh, P.S. Rao and G. Randhawa settled for the silver medal.
Gulshan Chunekar, Ninad Meykar, Chetan Fernandez and substitute Chaitanya Chowgule stood third after they beat Ayesha Lobo and crew.

In the Optimist class, Upamanyu Dutta bagged gold after winning the final race, which was inconsequential since he was declared winner on Saturday for having a unbeatable 17-point lead. Zephra Currimbhoy finished second while K.C. Ganapathy bagged the bronze though he finished with equal points since Zephra had finished second in maximum races. Zephra also won gold in the Optimist girls category.

Kaushal Kumar and crew member Girish won the Hobie inland championship while Brijesh Verma and B.S. Rao were declared runners-up.
