Viru, Raina take break, back home
Dambulla, Aug. 13: The unprofessional attitude of the team manager has left the Indian media unit here an unhappy lot.
Questions about a “comfort break” sought by some of the players were vehemently denied by the management on Thursday and at the same time, the fact that Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina had left Sri Lanka on a three-day sojourn was conveniently kept under wraps.
There was no information on the two batsmen being away and only when Sehwag emerged in a movie hall in Delhi did the news surface.
“The two players sought permission citing personal reasons and the BCCI decided to grant them a three-day break. This has nothing to do with the comfort break. In that case all the members from the Test team would have gone back home,” said team manager Ranjib Biswal.
The reply did not make up for keeping the media in the dark. India are the only Test playing nation without a professional media manager. This often gives ride to unwanted speculation that in turn lead to controversies.
The media gag is another strange practice. Why players should be stopped from airing their views on the game is beyond comprehension.
