Ankita makes 2nd ITF final
Pune girl Ankita Raina rallied from a set down to upset national champion Rutuja Bhosale in the singles semi-finals of the $10,000 ITF tennis tournament being played at the DLTA Complex courts in New Delhi. Raina won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
This was the second successive meeting between the two in the semi-finals of an ITF tournament and Rutuja failed to get past Ankita this time too. Ankita is now just one match away from clinching back to back ITF singles titles.
The final will be between Ankita and the third seed from Japan, Inoue Miyabi, who got the better of second seed Yang Zhaoxuan of China 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) in the second semi-final.
Rutuja began on an earnest note pocketing the first set 6-3 and looked to consolidate her lead. But Ankita kept her composure and came back strongly in the match winning the next two sets 6-4, 6-3.
In the doubles final, Prarthana Thombare and compatriot Shweta Rana failed to get past the challenge of the third seeded Japanese combination of Risa Hasegawa and Miyabi.
The Indian duo won the first set and looked set to win their maiden doubles title but failed to maintain the momentum as the they lost the match 1-6, 7-5, 10-8 in a super tie-break.
