Ferrer fires ball at baby
Spanish tennis ace David Ferrer was roundly booed after hitting a ball in the direction of a crying baby in the stands who distracted him from his game.
Ferrer’s mad moment came in the quarterfinal of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami against American Mardy Fish.
The 28-year-old was trailing in his match when he sent a tennis ball flying towards the screaming child. The ball did not hit the child or his father, who was giving him a hug, but the crowd were appalled and turned on Ferrer for the rest of the game.
The Spaniard eventually lost the match 7-5, 6-2, and later blamed an upset stomach for his outburst. “The crying baby was in one moment of the match, but nothing special. It was not the problem,” the Daily Mail quoted Ferrer, as saying.
