Golden double for Punjab girl Sonashee
Punjab girl Sonashee Bhatnagar won two finals on Saturday to complete a title double at the Aita talent series tennis championship in Lucknow.
Sonashee came out on top in the girls’ Under-12 and Under-14 singles category and in both the matches, Delhi girl Kiran Kalkar had to be content with a runners-up finish.
In the boys’ category, Uttarakhand’s Drona Walia won the Under-12 title, while Danish Ahmad of Delhi claimed the U-14 title at the La Martiniere facility.
Sonashee outplayed Kiran 6-1, 6-2 in the U-14 final before getting better of her again in the U-12 category by a similar margin.
The boys’ final was more keenly fought with as Ashutosh Tiwari stretched the match to three sets but failed to stop Walia from clinching the U-12 title 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. In the boys’ U-14 final, Ahmad defeated statemate and fourth seed Mohit Seherawat 6-2, 6-2.
