India draw taipei in 1st round tie
India have been drawn to play Chinese Taipei in their Asia/Oceania Zone Group I first round tie for next year’s Davis Cup, the All India Tennis Association said here on Wednesday.
The tie, to be played in India, has been scheduled for January 31 to February 2, 2014, but the venue is yet to be decided.
“It will be decided at a later date by the executive committee of Aita,” the federation said in a statement.
India had faced Taipei in Kaohsiung in 2009, when they eked out a 3-2 win over the hosts in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Uzbekistan and Korea are the seeded teams this year and they have got a bye in their first rounds.
India have been placed in the bottom half of the draw and if they win against Taipei in the first round, they will travel to Korea for the second round tie.
Earlier this year, India, without their singles and doubles stars except for Leander Paes, had suffered a 1-4 defeat against South Korea but beat Indonesia 5-0 to stay in Group I.
