Prarthana in semis for both singles, doubles

Seventh seed Prarthana Thombare upset second seed Rutuja Bhosale 5-7 6-4 6-2 in a thriller to set up a semi-final clash against third seed Rishika Sunkara in the NBCC ITF Women's tournament here today.

After going down in the first, Prarthana picked up pace and forced Rutuja to make the errors. The big points made the difference and Prathana converted most of the big points.

Partnering Nidhi Chilumula, Prarthana had earlier made the doubles semifinal where the duo will face the challenge from Rutuja and Rishika.

Rishika in her singles quarterfinals, avenged her national's final defeat against Prerna Bhamnbri with a fine 6-4, 6-0 win.

The only foreign entry left in the fray, Katherine IP from Hongkong, ended Eetee Maheta's dream run with a straight set win 6-2, 7-4 in another quarters.

In yet another three-setter, Shweta Rana defeated fourth seed Ankita Raina 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to enter the semis.

Meanwhile, Kyra Shroff compensated her early exit from the singles and entered the doubles finals with Aranxta Andrady, beating Anushka Brargava and Bhuvana Kalva 6-4, 6-2.
