Rohan ideal Olympic partner: Bhupathi
âIt will need a miracle to win a Tennis medal in London if regular partners are not allowed to continue,â says doubles ace Mahesh Bhupathi as he prepares for probably his last shot at Olympic glory in July.
The 38-year-old was here to interact with trainees of Mahesh Bhupathi Tennis Academy at the Regional Sports Centre. âIt will only be logical if regular partners are allowed to team up,â he said.
Despite an unimpressive season with Rohan Bopanna, Mahesh believes they could force a deadly combo in London, but he conceded that the final decision rests with the All India Tennis Association.
âBoth Rohan and I are power players and the game is to be held on grass so there cannot be any margin for error. Wimbledon follows so again there is a better chance,â said Mahesh.
Meanwhile, he nodded yes to doing mixed doubles with Sania Mirza in the French Open and Wimbledon. Mahesh complimented young guns Yuki Bhambri and Sanam Singh for their recent form and said he feels the countryâs âbench strength looks strongâ with players like them.
Mahesh fashioned a boisterous smile on being asked how long he might continue before calling it day. âI just take it as it comes and right now Iâm enjoying my tennis, so we will see,â he said.
