Sania, Bob Bryan to team up
America’s Bob Bryan, who along with his twin brother Mike Bryan, makes up the top-ranked doubles team in the world, will be Hyderabad ace Sania Mirza’s partner in mixed doubles at the Australian Open in 2013.
“Yes, I am going to play with Bryan at the Australian Open,” said Sania, who inaugurated the President’s Trophy boat race here on Thursday, told reporters.
In women’s doubles, American Bethanie Mattek-Sands would be her partner, she added.
Fifty eight boats of various categories, including 18 snake-boats, participated in the race, which saw Jawahar Thayankari winnig the first prize, Sree Ganesh the second, Dewas the third and Ayyapparambu Pandi came fourth in the competition for chundan boats.
She is now concentrating on doubles and would focus on singles only after she regains full fitness.
She also said that there was a plan to open an academy in Hyderabad to encouraging new talent, especially players from the rural areas of Andhra Pradesh.
The controversies before the Olympics had affected her performance, she said but stated that she still maintains a good relationship with Mahesh Bhupathi.
