Spirited India have it easy on Day One
Indian paddlers did not face much resistance, winning all their matches on the opening day of the South Asian Junior table tennis championships at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.
India began spiritedly beating Bangladesh and then Pakistan each by a 3-0 scoreline in the cadet boys’ section to take the top position in Group A and move into stage II of the the category.
In the junior boys too, India achieved similar scorelines against Pakistan and Bhutan to progress into the next round.
The results in the the girls’ section were also one-sided with Indian routing Nepal and Bangladesh 3-0 each. In the cadet girls’ category, where only three teams are participating, India beat Nepal 3-0.
After the opening day, Sri Lanka have emerged one of the strong contenders winning their respective matches and are on top in Group B in the cadet boys and the junior boys category and will face Indian paddlers to determine the top position.
In the girls’ categories too, India and Sri Lanka will face each other to decide the winners.
