US Open: Leander enters mixed doubles quarters
India's Leander Paes entered the mixed doubles quarterfinals while Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza progressed in the doubles events for men and women, respectively, at the US Open.
The seventh seed pair of Leander and Elena Vesnina edged past Taipei-Polish combine of Yung-Jan Chan and Mariusz Frystenberg 6-2, 6-7, 10-4 in a tight second round match on court six of the National Tennis Center on Friday.
The Indo-Russian pair face the winner of the Olga Govortsova and Marcin Matkowski versus Natalie Grandin and Jean-Julien Rojen encounter in the last eight.
Vesnina then teamed up with Sania to post a 6-1, 7-6 win over Russian Vitalia Diatchenko and Ukraine's Olga Savchuk in the second round of the women's doubles. Sania-Vesnina, seeded sixth, play the Czech pair of Iveta Benesova and Barbara Zahlavova Strycova in the third round.
The Indo-Pak duo of Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi defeated American James Cerretani and Germany's Philipp Marx 7-6, 7-6 to enter the third round of the men's doubles.
The fifth seed pair of Bopanna-Qureshi reached the final of the 2010 edition.
