London diary of a shooting star

I love to travel and luckily for me, my profession takes me to new countries and new destinations where I get to meet new people and try out different cuisines.

Talking about my favourite travel destination, earlier I was partial towards Munich, Germany, just because I always felt at peace there. But ever since I visited London for the Olympic Games, I am in love with the UK capital.
London has a part of history in every small little street. The architecture of the buildings that you see around takes you back in time. And somewhere, I also noticed that London has a good mixture of traditional and modern cultures. Apart from the history and the culture, I was simply zapped by the amazing public transport they have.
The first time I went to London, I stayed close to the St. Paul’s Cathedral and the second time, I put up at the Olympic Village. But I would suggest visitors to stay close to the Westminster Abbey, my current favourite.
Apart from this, my activities in London include walking along the river Thames and eating at the riverside local cafes. My London ‘must do’ list also includes going to the Westminster Abbey and see the buildings and marvellous architecture. I quite enjoy rides on the London Eye overlooking the whole of the city. Being a museum person, I simply enjoy visiting various museums — Natural History Museum, Science Museum, British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum — and gathering pictures. I would suggest, hire a bicycle and ride in the Hyde Park and then go to the Buckingham Palace. If you are lucky enough, you can see the guard ceremony at the palace.
The other places one should explore in London are the St. Paul’s Cathedral, Madame Tussaud’s museum, the Oxford street, and the Regent street. One place that one should go to have Indian food is the Southall, an Indian locality few kilometres outside the main city. I had the best Indian food at one of the local restaurants there. The musicals and the plays are the other local charms of London apart from the Tower Bridge, the Big Ben and the various cruises on the Thames river and now the Olympic Park as well.
But one thing one needs to keep in mind — you should always carry an umbrella and warm clothes wherever you are in London because the weather is very unpredictable and changes every minute.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
