An Oz-some experience
I first went to Australia in 2007 when I was a student and had also started my modelling career. It remains my favourite city. Probably so because at the place where I was staying, my balcony faced Sydney’s Darling Harbour, offering one of the best views of the city. The view stayed with me.
To add more, Sydney is a very fast-paced city when compared to the rest of Australia. One could say it’s like the Mumbai of Australia.
It has a buzz that draws the gourmet, the culture vulture, the water sports fanatic, the party animal. There’s a wide array of wonderful cuisines from all over the world available. If you want Japanese food, there is an awesome Sushi bar in the city; if you want Italian, the pizzas are just as amazing. Greek pizzas are to die for! The only thing I’ve tried there that was confined to Australian cuisine was kangaroo meat. It tastes a lot like chicken, it’s 97 per cent fat free, but red in colour.
Australia, with its serene coastline and enthralling Great Barrier Reef, is a haven for people who love the water, including me. You can find many people deep-sea diving, water skiing or parasailing or simply sunbathing at Bondi Beach.
Partying with the Aussies is a whole new experience. Where else can you go to parties even after the ones that end at 6:00 am! There are Indian-friendly clubs where people groove to desi tunes.
I am aware of the racist slur that Australia has been associated with, considering many Indian students seemed to have been targeted. But that’s not necessarily true. As long as people live and let live and don’t intrude into other people’s lives, Australia has quite a great mix of culturally different people.
