It’s telly over films for Aruna

Veteran actress Aruna Irani has featured in some iconic films and has starred in some memorable TV shows too. She is currently seen on Sanskaar-Dharorar Apno Ki on Colors. When we ask her why she has been away from films for quite some time and opted for a TV show instead, she says, “It doesn’t matter to me whether it is films, TV or theatre — acting is acting. No matter what medium it is, I will react the same way. In fact, I feel TV offers more scope than films. There aren’t good roles for senior artistes in films these days. Rather than doing one or two scenes in films I am happy doing a full-fledged role in Sanskaar.”
Aruna has been part of famous shows like Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, Mehndi Tere Naam Ki, Jhansi Ki Rani and more. While Sanskaar may not have gained the expected popularity, the actress says she is happy doing the show. She says, “I would call my character Ansu ba, the all rounder of the show. She is emotional, comic and has some negative shades as well. I feel content playing a role with so much depth.”
The actress has been part of TV for 13 years now. Ask her if there has been any change in the industry over the years and she rues, “The schedules are extremely hectic now that TV has got so competitive. I wish that could ease a bit.”

A Shocking twist
We hear there is a shocking twist coming up in Madhubala this week. A source from the show tells us, “Madhu tells RK about the conversation with Sultan and him being right about Sultan’s intentions. RK leaves to meet Sultan after Madhu sleeps but Dipali informs her RK has left. RK meets Sultan and they have a huge fight. Madhu reaches the spot and sees RK shooting Sultan. Sultan dies and RK surrenders to police.”— NC

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
