Real crime on reel stories
Anup Soni, who hosts Crime Patrol, tells us that the show’s intention is not capitalise on an unfortunate incident, but to spread awareness about the wrong-doings in society. “The purpose of the show is not to scare people, but expose the ugly side of humans and make people aware of the world we’re living in,” he says, explaining to us why the next episode of the show will trace the Delhi rape case.
He is happy about the fact that rape and molestation victims these days do not shy away from filing a complaint. That deserves to be recognised. “Times have changed. These days, instead of feeling sorry for themselves and becoming recluses, the victims march to the police station to file a complaint. That is a very positive step which we need to talk about,” he says. But it is no easy feat, the actor tells us.
Recreating real cases too is tough. “It is not as simple as going on location and dramatising the event. It needs a lot of research and more than anything, quite a few permissions from authorities too,” he says.
Father of two daughters, Anup admits that he worries about their safety. “I can’t confine my daughters to the house because I am worried about them. But what I can do is make them aware of what’s going on and instill confidence in them to take care of themselves,” he says.
