Vindhya returns as girl-next-door
She’s been in shows like Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Maryada — Lekin Kab Tak and Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein, and now, Vindhya Tiwari has been roped in to essay one of the lead roles in Mrs Pammi Pyarelal.
Says Vindhya of the role, “Gayatri is someone who’s the girl-next-door, she’s been raised in Lucknow by a Muslim governess and has just returned home to her parents. It’s not really a comic character, but because she speaks in Urdu, the situation often turns into a comedy of errors. Gayatri is sweet and bubbly and it’s just been four days since I started shooting for the part.”
The high point of these four days has definitely been working with actors Gaurav Gera and Karan Godwani, Vindhya says. “They’re not just good actors, they’re also very fun-loving,” she explains. “It’s almost like being part of a wonderful clan while you learn the lessons of life and your craft.”
Also nice, Vindhya agrees, is the chance to be part of a lighthearted story after emotionally draining portrayals in shows like Maryada. And now that she’s tried her hand at comedy, she’d love to do more dance and comedy reality shows. “I would not miss a chance of doing such a show if I was offered one. Kapil (Sharma) has been performing so well on his ongoing comedy show and that has definitely been an inspiration to me,” Vindhya says.
Did we hear her say dance shows? Vindhya smiles and tells us that she loves to dance, and would often mimic actresses Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor in her younger days. “I am not a trained dancer. But when I was little, my parents would take me for a movie every weekend. I’d make it a point to never miss a film of Madhuri or Karisma’s, sitting in the very first row! And after coming home, I would copy all their dance steps accurately,” she recounts.
Apart from dance, reading is the other great love of Vindhya’s life. Apart from the latest paperback (Amish Tripathi’s Meluha books are currently by her bedside) Vindhya tells us that she makes it a point to read the latest on politics, world affairs and the economy. She also admits to being an avid follower of Amitabh Bachchan on Twitter. “I would be honoured if I got to know even 10 per cent of a personality like him,” she says. “It’s not easy to make a mark in life, it calls for a lot of hard work and sacrifices, and that’s why I really respect people like him, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra, to name a few.”
Vindhya says that she doesn’t have too many industry friends (“I am here to work, not make friends,” she asserts) but is close to the Mrs Kaushik… team. And as for having someone special in her life, she tells us that she is single. “I’m yet to find that person who’ll fit my idea (of the ideal),” she says. “Looks don’t matter much, but he must love me to the core.”
