Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed appeals by the federal and Punjab provincial governments against Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed’s release from house arrest for want of evidence. He is thus a free man again and no longer subject to house arrest. This is a major setback to India’s efforts to nail him for involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, of which he is believed to have been the mastermind.
Mumbai ATS arrests suspect
A key suspect in the Pune German Bakery blasts was arrested at Mangalore’s Bajpe Airport on Monday morning by a team from the Mumbai anti-terrorist squad. The suspect, Abdul Samad, alias Samad Bhatkal, had arrived on a flight from Dubai, sources said. According to investigating officials, Samad is a key suspect in the Pune blasts along with Yaseen Bhatkal. Samad is related to Riyaz Bhatkal, the founder of the Indian Mujahideen who is wanted by the ATS of four states.
