Ms Banerjee on Saturday rejected Mr Trivedi’s demand that he should be given marching orders in writing.

Trivedi may go after Budget

With Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee turning on the heat, the government is considering replacing railway minister Dinesh Trivedi well before the first half of the Budget Session ends on March 30. Mr Trivedi is expected to send his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon. Ms Banerjee has indicated she expects the government to replace him shortly after finance minister Pranab Mukherjee presents the Union Budget on Friday.
A partial rollback of Mr Railway Budget proposals could also be on the cards following Mr Trivedi’s replacement by Mr Mukul Roy.

Unfare Mamata UPA ante

The Congress-led UPA plunged into a fresh political crisis on Wednesday with two crucial allies, the Trinamul Congress (19 MPs) and the DMK (18 MPs), arm-twisting the government. In an unprecedented move, Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh late Wednesday evening asking him to replace railway minister Dinesh Trivedi, from her party, for going against the Trinamul line. The government is likely to accept Ms Banerjee’s demand to replace the railway minister.
