Pak inmate attacked in Jammu prison

A 54-year-old Pakistani prisoner was critically injured after he was attacked early on Friday by a fellow inmate, a court-martialled Indian soldier who is also serving a life term for murder in the high-security Kot Balwal jail on the outskirts of Jammu. The Pakistani, Rana Sanaullah Haq, was shifted to Chandigarh’s PGI Hospital where he is reported to be “stable”.

Jail staff suspended, case on attacker

The local police in Jammu has registered a case against Vinod Kumar, a former Army jawan convicted of the murder of a colleague in Ladakh, for assaulting Pakistani prisoner Rana Sanaullah Haq in Kot Balwal jail, on the outskirts of Jammu.

4 cops killed in militant ambush

Four policemen were killed in a militant ambush outside the Kashmiri town of Sopore on Friday evening. The assailants fled the scene of crime along with the service rifles of the slain policemen and a massive manhunt for them is underway, reports said.

UK woman slain on houseboat

A British tourist was found murdered on Saturday morning in her room on a houseboat in Srinagar’s Dal Lake. A Dutch national staying in another room on the same houseboat was found trying to flee Kashmir, leaving behind his belongings in his room. He was arrested from Qazigund, the gateway to the Valley from the south and about 75 km from the scene of the crime, and brought back to Srinagar for questioning.

Cops suspect brit resisted sexual assault

Preliminary police investigations found Briton Sara Elizabeth Groves had been stabbed to death as she had multiple stab wounds and a knife was found next to her. She may have resisted sexual assault, a police official said, adding that the suspect smashed the latch on the houseboat cabin door before the attack.
