The December quarter results of the IT biggies, apart from the sales and profit numbers were notable for another reason. Most companies have now resumed hiring and were also going ahead with bonuses and pay hikes. As a result, Bengaluru-based realty companies such as Sobha Developers, Brigade Enterprises and Purvankara are expected to gain.
In a report on the realty sector, Merrill Lynch says that Bengaluru is the place to be in 2010 because of the IT sector boom. The major IT players have already announced plans to hire up to 100,000 new employees during the year. More clarity would emerge as the smaller companies also come out with details. The broker has rated the three city based firms as “buy”.
As a result, companies with the bulk of their business in the city are witnessing upgrades. For instance, Sobha developers has seen its rating being upgraded by JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, largely on the strength of the realty market in Bengaluru because of IT sector recovery.
