Towers on schools, hospitals to be removed

New Delhi ,Feb. 8: Giving nod to a liberalised policy for installation of mobile phone towers, the MCD on Monday said that those installed over roof tops of schools, hospitals and dispensaries in the city would be removed immediately, while those in areas like residential apartments and commercial places will continue to exist.

Shocked over husband death, wife kills herself

New Delhi ,Feb. 8: A 28-year-old woman apparently jumped to death after receiving the message of her husband’s death in Paschim Vihar area of west Delhi on Saturday.
The police officials said the deceased, identified as Indu, fell down from the third-floor of her residence in Paschim Vihar when she was informed that her husband had died in a road accident. Ajay Barwal, 30, Indu’s husband, was killed when he was hit by a Tata 407 in Nihal Vihar area on Saturday.
According to senior police official Barwal, a resident of GH block in Paschim Vihar, was heading to his office on a Bajaj Discover motorbike when the incident occurred. “When he reached near Nihal Vihar nullah, a Tata 407 slipped back and Ajay was sandwiched between Tata 407 and a wall behind the spot at 11.20 am on Saturday. He was taken to Sanjay Gandhi hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the official said.
After confirming his identity, the police rushed his body to his Paschim Vihar residence. “When Indu saw her husband’s body, she apparently lost control and went up to the third-floor of their residence and fell down. It is very difficult to confirm whether she committed suicide or jumped to death. She was also taken to Sanjay Gandhi hospital where she was also declared dead,” DCP (west) Sharad Aggarwal, said.
The bodies of Barwal and Indu have been sent for post-mortem.

CRPF wives body holds exhibition  for funds

Feb. 8: An exhibition was organised by the IPS Wives’ Welfare Association in the city on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Soni Srivastava, president of the CRPF Wives Welfare Association (CWWA), said: “While men of the CRPF devote themselves to maintaining law and order in the country, their wives are generating a sense of accomplishment and honing their managerial skills.”
She added that the initiative will not only help make the families financially independent, but also showcase their innate qualities and give them exposure. The CWWA is assisting families by providing a platform to show their talent.

Didn’t shoot Sharma, claims IM suspect

New Delhi,Feb. 7: In a statement contrary to the claims of the police till now, the alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) militant Shahzad Ahmad Farouqui on Sunday said that he did not shoot the special cell inspector Mohan Chand Sharma during the Batla House encounter.

Jobless engineer commits suicide

New Delhi, Feb. 7: A 25-year-old man was found hanging at his friend’s residence in Munirka village. After initial investigations, the Vasant Vihar police has registered a case of suicide.
According to the FIR registered at the Vasant Vihar police station, the deceased, Marlan Kumar was found hanging around 2.30 pm while his friend was away. Police officers said that Kumar, a civil engineer used to work in Madras but he lost his job late in November last year.

‘Cancer awareness to aid in early detection’

New Delhi ,Feb. 7: Prime Minister’s wife Gursharan Kaur and chief minister Sheila Dikshit led a cancer awareness walk on Sunday. Over 5,000 Delhiites joined them in walk on 4.5-km stretch on Vinay Marg to raise awareness for cancer and show solidarity with the people afflicted with the disease.

Hockey Cup a test for CWG readiness

New Delhi ,Feb. 7: The upcoming Hockey World Cup will be a good rehearsal for security during the Common-wealth Games later this year. The Delhi police, which has beefed up security for the event will install around 150 CCTV cameras in the National and Shivaji Stadiums.
Talking to this correspondent, Delhi police PRO, Rajan Bhagat, said that the extra CCTV cameras will be installed in the two stadiums and the Heritage building. Police officers said that the control centre of the cameras in the three areas will be in the heritage building premises.

Gurgaon line has Metro’s sharpest bend

New Delhi ,Feb. 7: Delhi Metro has constructed its sharpest broad gauge curve on elevated section in Gurgaon near the IFFCO Chowk to save existing buildings on either side along the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road. The curve has been constructed with a radius of 282.05 metres from pier no. 125 to 137, which is very less compared to other curves on Metro’s entire elevated track till now. .
