Keep the faith going
Along with the stories of devastation in Uttarakhand, inspiring incidents of hope and humanity are also being revealed. In the midst of our worst fears and frustration, the rescue workers, mainly the defence personnel, have lifted up our drooping spirits.
The Siddha Purush
Back from his fourth odyssey, Guru Nanak settled in Kartarpur along with his family. There was great rejoicing by the people who came there for a glimpse of the Guru and to listen to his divine songs.
To earth you’ll return
The reminder of one’s mortality has always been the fundamental force behind the human search for something beyond. Nobody would seek spirituality if they did not know that they would die. When you are young, you tend to think you are immortal, but slowly, as you get older, the body reminds you that you are mortal.
Get closer to God
The month of Ramzan is like an honourable guest in the homes of Muslims, a gift from Allah.
Live life the feminine way
There are two fundamental ways of living our life — one is the masculine way and the other is the feminine way. Though both of the ways are opposite to each other, yet they are complimentary.
How to age gracefully
One question that is often posed to me is, “What is the art of graceful ageing?” When I first thought about the art of graceful ageing, it occurred to me there must also be an “art of disgraceful ageing”. But for the latter, no art is required — merely living based on one’s impulses, whims and fancies is disgraceful enough.
Rest assured
A rich industrialist was alarmed to see a fisherman resting on the seashore, smoking. “Why aren’t you out fishing?” inquired the industrialist. “Because I’ve caught enough fish for today,” replied the fisherman. “Why don’t you work harder and catch more fish?” asked the industrialist. “What for?” queried the fisherman.
Hakuna Matata
Most people do not know how to be happy. They look for happiness outside rather than within. They feel happy when they are praised, respected or when their expectations/desires are fulfilled. But when that does not happen, when they are criticised, their ego is hurt or expectations are not met, they feel sad.
Shaheeda de sartaj
The notion of “martyrdom” has a special place in Sikhism. A shahid or a martyr chooses to forsake life rather than renounce his/her faith. In Sikh history, Guru Arjan, who stood for truth, was the first Sikh martyr. Fifth in the line of Sikh Gurus, Arjan became a guru at the age of 18.
A darshan of garbage
Osho said, “Godliness is next to cleanliness” and I could understand this Osho idiom when I saw pictures of the oceanic garbage in the Uttarakhand area. I fail to understand the minds of people who worship the idol in a temple and completely neglect the environment all around.
