Swimmers, athletes star on penultimate day

Dhaka, Feb. 7: The athletes and swimmers led the Indian rout besides creating two new meet records on the 10th day of the 11th South Asian Games here on Sunday. With 10 gold, 12 silver and eight bronze won on the penultimate day of competition, India now have 129 medals (67 gold, 40 silver and 22 bronze).
Pakistan are a distant second with 17 gold, 23 silver and 27 bronze.

Pakistan edge past India in hockey final

Dhaka, Feb. 7: The experienced duo of Dharamvir Singh and Varinderjeet Singh misfired in the tie-breaker as India went down 4-5 to archrivals Pakistan and had to be content with a silver medal after a keenly contested hockey summit clash in 11th South Asian Games here on Sunday.

‘Speechless after triumph’

Friedel helps Villa keep Spurs at bay

Muniyappa, Atwal geared up for event

New Delhi ,Feb. 7: Reigning Indian Open champion Chinnaswamy Muniyappa will hope to make the most of the opportunity of playing a European and Asian Tour co-sanctioned event on the DLF Golf & Country Club course — a venue that shot him to fame — when he tees off for the $2.1 million Avantha Masters next week.
Muniyappa will be joined in his endeavour by former Asian Tour number one and USPGA regular Arjun Atwal, who will make a return after a spate of injuries in the past two seasons.

Old foes England & Wales to clash for Euro ’12 berth

WARSAW ,Feb. 7: Fabio Capello’s England will face old rivals Wales in their Euro 2012 qualification campaign after the draw was made here on Sunday for the tournament to be held in the Ukraine and Poland.
England have drawn John Toshack’s Wales side in Group G as well as Montenegro, Bulgaria and Switzerland for a place at Euro 2012 with the qualifiers set to begin this September and finish in November 2011.

Mumbai, Feb. 7: As the McDowell Signature Indian Derby got over, there was only one name doing the rounds at the Mahalaxmi Race Course here on Sunday. Jacqueline.

Mumbai,Feb. 7: As the nerve wrecking Indian Derby got over, the overjoyed owners of Jacqueline and the team which prepared the filly for the event, were the most sought-after at the Mahalaxmi Race Course here on Sunday.
England-based Irish jockey Richard Hughes was a relieved man after breaking the jinx with a record run. “There was immense pressure before the race as a lot was being talked about the filly,” he said.
