Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf is one of the 24 absconding accused in the cricket betting case in which Mumbai crime branch filed a chargesheet on Saturday. According to the crime branch, Mr Rauf placed bets on IPL matches, including those in which he officiated. He was also allegedly in touch with bookies and accepted expensive gifts from them.

The death toll from an attack in northeastern Nigeria that saw insurgents dressed as soldiers set up checkpoints and gun down travellers on a highway has risen to at least 142, an official said Sunday.

Untouchability back in Kerala temple

In a shocking move, the managing trustee of a temple in Thrithala, Palakkad, has put up a board restricting entry to upper caste Hindus. Only Namboothiris and Embranthiris can enter Padinjatti (temple premises) while other upper castes can pray from outside the temple. Backward caste Hindus are also barred entry.
