The Election Commission of India should not function like a political party but should function in a neutral manner like the judiciary, chief minister
and DMK president M.Karunanidhi said.

Making a U-turn, an election official on whose complaint an assault case has been registered against the Union minister, Mr M.K. Alagiri, on Monday claimed he was not roughed up by ruling party activists who accompanied the DMK strongman during his controversial temple visit in the district on Friday.

Union minister and senior DMK leader M.K. Alagiri along with 52 other partymen has been booked by police in connection with the alleged assault of an election official and a videographer at a village in the district.

District collector U. Sahayam on Wednesday refuted the allegation that he had spoken about change of government in Tamil Nadu at a function here recently and said such a charge has been made only to “divert” him from election-related work.
