The Special Investigation Cell (SIC) constituted by Uttar Pradesh government has begun its probe into the 106 cases registered in connection with Muzaffarnagar riots that left 49 people dead.

Black flags and slogan shouting by angry villagers today greeted Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav during his visit to the district rocked by communal violence that claimed 47 lives and displaced over 40,000 people.

With calm prevailing in riot-hit areas of Muzaffarnagar, the administration today eased curfew for 12 hours in the district.

After three days, curfew was relaxed Tuesday for two hours in violence-hit areas of the district where communal clashes have left 38 people dead.

At least 10 more people were killed in spiralling violence in Muzaffarnagar today, taking the toll to 21 in the western UP district where the army staged flag marches and thousands of anti-riot police personnel were deployed to restore law and order.

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped by three persons, including a BSP MLA's son, police said on Saturday.

The FIR, based on the complaint of the victim, was registered on Friday
