NAC for change in RTI rules
Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council has recommended deletion of some of the RTI Act rules proposed by the government, saying they are “legally wrong.”
The NAC has sent its recommendations to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which had invited public comments on the proposed rules.
Efforts on to ensure a smooth session, says govt
Minister of state for parliamentary affairs V. Narayanaswamy on Thursday expressed confidence that the forthcoming Budget Session will be smooth. The minister added that the Budget Session would begin on the 21st of the next month. Railway Budget, according to him, will be presented on the February 25 and the General Budget will be presented on the February 28 in the Lower House.
Budget Session to start from Feb. 21
The government has decided to hold the Budget Session of Parliament from February 21 at a time when the Opposition has not diluted its stand on a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum allocation scam. This issue had virtually made the Winter Session the non-starter. The government, which has been refusing the Opposition’s demand for a JPC has not been able to break the impasse on the issue despite having called atleast three meetings with the Opposition leaders.
