The business of beauty
Thirty years and still going strong. Shobha Kunjan, 55, who revolutionised the concept of beauty in Kochi, is happy as she looks back at the years gone by.
The lady who still loves lending a personal touch to each of her esteemed clientele has come a long way. “When I started off the outlook of people was very different. A
Cityscapes get couture canvas
In search of inspiration, designer Sanchita Jhulka’s creative canvas has travelled the distance to cover a city and its essence. Titled Cityscape, the Kolkata-based designer has brought graphic elements in the design like lampposts, birds on the wire, relics of the Raj era and high-rises silhouetting the outlines of her dresses.
Swinging seventies
Everything about the Seventies woman’s style is back. Those of you who are on the right side of 40 weren’t even born then. But the rest of us remember the look.
Kitten heels. Midi skirt. Floral blouse tucked into skirt. The hair parted in the centre. Round plastic sunglasses. Bell bottoms. Super-flared pants. All of it. If you are a
Social media makes fundraising get easier
Director Onir’s recently released film I Am could not have been made if not for the 400 people who responded to his Facebook campaign to help finance the project. Rehab for homeless teens being planned
Thousands of kids on the city roads who are forever sniffing a rag/handkerchief are victims of drug abuse. They start out with fluid and iodex and graduate to the actual “stuff”. While activists appreciate the idea, they are skeptical about the implementation.
Expats give thumbs up to India’s ‘homely’ quotient

But many foreign nationals who have set up home here, have adjusted to the environment and don’t regret the shift.
I’m too busy for Mausam: Kats
Katrina Kaif seems to be dogged by some controversy or the other. First it was the comparisons between her item number Sheila Ki Jawani and Deepika’s item song Dum Maro Dum and now there are reports doing the rounds that the actress was so desperate to work in Pankaj Kapur’s directorial venture Mausam opposite Shahid Kapur that she approached Pankaj herself.
‘I want to make a madcap caper’
Mahesh Aney, the cinematographer behind the stunning visuals of Swades and innumerable ads for Coca-Cola, Dairy Milk and Bajaj scooters, may now be a name to reckon with in the world of cinema. But getting here has been a long journey.
Midi revolution
There is hope for us ladies who do not have legs that go on forever. There is hope because we can hide our thunder thighs under a skirt. That’s because the midi skirt is back in vogue. Frumpy, did you say? Yeah girl, I am referring to the fuddy-duddy skirt which until now was so passé. This season if you want to be with-it, you gotta lay your hands on these knee-length skirts.
Bohemian spirit
You don’t really need chandeliers and Persian carpets to be house-proud. For someone like graphic novelist Sarnath Banerjee who feels comfortable in a pair of shorts even at formal dos (he came in shorts during the launch of his book The Harappa Files recently), everything doesn’t need to be prim and proper. Even a not-so-perfect house is ‘cool’.
