Insurgents killed a total of 23 policemen across Afghanistan within 24 hours, officials said today, reflecting the increasing police role in the war before the withdrawal of NATO troops.

Fourteen civilians were killed and four others injured in a blast linked to insurgents in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, an official said.
