Court stays release of Tamil film
A city civil court on Thursday stayed the release of the Tamil film Kandha, directed by Babu Viswanath and starring Karan.
The first assistant judge of the city civil court granted the interim injunction, ordered notice to V.P. Films through its proprietor M.V. Palanivel and posted to March 19 the further hearing of the case.
S. Mohan Kumar of Choolai contended that Palanivel had borrowed Rs25 lakh as loan for producing the film Kandha in September 2009. He had executed a promissory note in favour of the plaintiff and issued two cheques for Rs10 lakh each.
However, the cheques were returned on November 13, 2010, for insufficient funds. Further, he had given an undertaking that he will settle the loan on or before the release of the movie and promised that without settling the dues, he will not release the movie.
