Suresh Raina’s Twitter googly
Swashbuckling cricketer Suresh Raina is now in trouble for a “not so nice” good-bye message to the Pakistan cricket team.
On Thursday night, after Pakistan was defeated by Sri Lanka in the first semifinals of the on-going T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, he ‘apparently’ posted this on his official Twitter account – Ek do din late gaye ghar !!!! Who bhi besharam ki tarah Gaye… Bye bye Pakistan!!! (sic) (They went home one or two days late. That too in a shameful way. Bye, bye Pakistan).
But Raina immediately deleted the tweet from his account. Unfortunately, it was a case of, “You are too late, Mr Bond”.
Following a flurry of retweets and shares the tweet soon turned into a debate and then arrived the ‘nephew’.
The next day, he tweeted — Smart phones r dangerous. Discovered it last night after my nephew posted random tweets. I’m a sportsman and would never disrespect (sic).
Did it end there? No. Raina, his nephew and the excuse are trending on Twitter. Here are some tweets:
* @rameshsrivats: So, Suresh Raina has a scapegoat tied to his family tree.
* @Raina_Nephew: Tendulkar uncle is thinking of retirement? Or is it a rumour being spread by his nephew? #confusion
* @knittins: And ECB, no! KP had no role to play in Raina's tweet, so don't re-differentiate him.
* @Dropmal: It seems that #RainaNephew has exactly the same poor grammar and spelling as his uncle.
The Twitter folk found his reason very lame, and not being ones to pass up on a chance to make the most of the situation, people started making jokes about it, with trending topics such as #RainaNephew and even a Twitter handles that posed as his nephew tweeting being created.
Each of those hilarious accounts went from having 0 to 100 followers or more in a matter of few minutes.
Well, Raina’s current predicament reminds us of an old adage that can be tweaked to suit the modern times – think twice before you tweet!
