‘Police was with killers in ’84 riots’
A victim of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Jagdish Kaur, who lost five family members including her husband, on Friday told the court of additional sessions judge (ASJ) Sunita Gupta that the police was allegedly hand in glove with rioters and remained a mute spectator to the ongoing massacre.
“Delhi police was with the killer rioters and I have no faith in them,” said Ms Kaur, deposing before the ASJ.
Ms Kaur told the court that the police post-in-charge not only refused to lodge the report in connection with the riots, but asked her not to name the accused, including senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar.
“The police officer had then told me that the persons being named by you are very powerful and where you will go with the surviving family members?” she said.
Ms Kaur, narrating the entire sequence of events, said, “On November 2 and 3, I had gone to the police post in the area but the report was not lodged and the officer said: “Abhi aur log marne hain, ikkatthe report likhenge (Many more will be killed, a collective report will be written).”
She said, “Then, I went to a nearby Gurdwara and from there I went to Punjab with surviving family members on November 3.” Earlier, she had told the court that she had seen the Congress leader provoking a mob to kill Sikhs.
Meanwhile, a city court on Friday rejected the bail plea of a property dealer accused of raping a 27-year-old Brazilian student.
Metropolitan magistrate Munish Markan, while refusing the plea of the accused Amandeep Singh, said, “Application is devoid of any merit. Investigation is still at the nascent stage.”
Singh was arrested by the police for allegedly raping the Brazilian student in her rented
accommodation in Chittaranjan Park in south Delhi.

Delhi Police's involvement

Delhi Police's involvement and support for 1984 riots is well known and documented. To me this is a far bigger issue that hurts than Sajjan, Tytler, Kamal Nath combined. At least the politicians are know to be spineless and for a few rupees and votes can kill even their own family. Their motivation for the crime is power. However, the police is a different story. What motivation did they have? Did they get paid off in this by these goons or forced to be part of the killings because they are a bunch of criminals themselves? You don't go around killing citizens because a senior office says so. You could resign.
