Bikers rob cash, injure trader
Two men were robbed by armed bike-borne assailants in separate incidents in the city with one of the victims receiving gunshot injuries when he resisted. In the first incident, two bike-borne assailants open fire at a 50-year-old businessman in southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony area, injuring him critically during a robbery attempt on Sunday evening.
The incident took place on a road connecting Taimur Nagar with Bharat Nagar in New Friends Colony. The two brothers, identified as Mahavir and Mahender were heading towards their home on motorcycles when two unidentified men intercepted them and asked them to hand over a bag in which cash was kept.
“When they put up a resistance, the assailants took out a revolver and opened fire at Mahender while Mahavir suffered minor bruises. Two bullets hit Mahender in his shoulder while the assailants managed to flee with the bag containing Rs 20,000 cash. The onlookers alerted the police and the victims were taken to nearby Holy Family hospital from where they were shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre where the condition of Mahender is stated to be critical,” a senior police official said.
The police has recorded the statement of Mahavir. “We are suspecting the hand of a local gang in the incident. We have got some major leads in the case and some people have been held for questioning,” the official said.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man was held hostage at gun-point by three armed assailants in northeast Delhi and robbed him of cash.
The police said the victim, identified as Jagdish Kumar, was on his way to deposit cash at a bank in Khajuri Khas on Monday morning.
Three bike-borne assailants intercepted him while he was parking his bike near Bank of Baroda in Khajuri Khas and held him hostage at gun-point, sources revealed.
“They asked him to hand over the bag containing cash. After taking his bag, the assailants fled from the area while the victim called up the police control room,” a police official said.
