Khurana, Sheila end legal tussle
After a six-year-long protracted legal battle, senior BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana and chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday buried their hatchet and reached a settlement in a defamation case.
Mr Khurana, who challenged the single judge’s order directing him to lead the evidence first in the defamatory suit initiated by Ms Dikshit, withdrew his petition from the Delhi high court.
The lawyers for both the leaders appeared before the division bench comprising Justices Vikramjit Sen and A.K. Pathak and informed that the parties have reached a settlement as the case is pending for past several years and no purpose would be served if the litigation is stretched further.
Following the submission, the court directed that the suit which is pending before a single judge be withdrawn by Ms Dikshit.
The case dates back to September 2003.
In the run up to the Assembly polls, Mr Khurana had said that Ms Dikshit had in a “devious and scandalous manner” received Rs 15 crores from the private electricity distribution companies to fight elections.
